RE: Align-A-site aiming with Slimline Dish

I dont have Align a Site but have manually set up my Slimline on a Bullseye mount for the past 8 months...I would think that unless your tripod/mast are level and plumb AND stable, you will need alot of gross dish adjustments just to get to the fine tune stage..and with the weight of the dish, alot of gross adjustments could cause your tripod to lose its plumb...

RE: Refrigerator fires probably very common...

Judging by the burn pattern, this thing was parked when it burned...no assymetric pattern....

Refrigerator fires probably very common...

I saw a 30 something footer gasser being towed up I 65 today with the wall and roof burned away, exposing the fridge....obviously the cause for that one...pretty scarey to think about...and I had heard alot about them causing fires, now saw it for myself....

RE: DirecTV Reception in Oregon?

I found my signal meter was robbing signal strength to the receiver....try removing the inline meter and chek the strength then..

RE: Folding Slimline HD Dish

was...I saw the same thing as you...actually once saw a "kit" for about 20 bux that allowed the arm to swivel against the dish face and had a few quick bolts/thumbscrews for the other adjustments....cant find it anywhere...even ebay!!

RE: Advise on Extended Warranty

There is definitely profit for the warranty company/seller...most who buy it won't spend more company money (price of warranty) than they paid otherwise service contracts would disappear really fast....so it's just a comfort thing for the buyer...If you can put the 2-3K aside and not touch it, save it for a reserve for the biggie repair you would be betting will happen, except with this bet, you keep the money and use it if necessary....it is quite unlikely that any surprise repairs would exceed the price of the contract....odds are in the sellers favor..just like the casinos.....sure...some win but there are enough losers to make the casino look like a nice palace...only the luck of the draw will put you on top with a service contract...that means ALOT of expensive repairs to your unit...

RE: Bus crash test

most don't run into a solid wall of concrete ether its usually something smaller.
Just think about if it was a head on collision.....that basically doubles the speed of impact...I have been under mine alot and have noticed how LITTLE protection the entire front has against a substantial frontal impact....makes me really pay attention...and I have lost the 'king of the road' feeling.....:E

RE: Aiming Directv Slimline Antenna

I have been using the Slimline for over 9 months with my Bullseye mount...as said before...make sure the mast is plumb and you have the proper skew setting in advance, turn on the receiver signal meter screen, turn up the volume loud or use an outside tv and point the dish to get the strongest signal on 101 (default)...I have found that if I max out the 101 signal, the other 3 birds are also there with only rare fine tuning necessary...I found the cheap inline meters to be very unreliable and take more time than they are worth...

RE: direct TV HD receiver

that would be a wrong assumption....you are billed for your programming, not your receiver....

RE: How to attach a thermometer to record exterior temps

I have a wireless where I put the outside sender on my ladder...made an aluminum strap attached to the sender that is bent to hold onto the stair tightly but easily removes for battery changes....

RE: 12 v. Computer power supply

That just sounds scarey to me....why not use an inverter and run the computer off its AC adapter? The adapter is better able to handle voltage changes, right?

RE: Tow Bars.....Opinions, Please

I bought a Saturn that came with a Falcon 2 setup..I already had a blue ox Aventa for my other toad....I liked the Aventa so much more that I got Falcon adapters for the ox to stay with my Saturn baseplate, although I prefer the Blue Ox baseplate too, due to it becoming invisible after the tabs are removed...The Blue Ox was much easier to hook and unhook and has a 10K rating....go for an OX!!!:)

Weber Q100 smoker box...

I'm not a sheetmetal guy but fabricated a simple smoker chip box that hangs under the solid part of the grill...I made it from a $10 sheet of aluminum and left some long tabs that fit into the oval holes along side the solid part. It hangs about 1/2" above the flame and is about 3/4" deep to hold a decent amount of chips....took about 10 min to make...most of that was figgering out what I needed to do!! Easy job!

RE: Average Speed on the Highway

My Engine is rated at 2,000 RPM for peak power, so I tend to drive more by the RPM's. Over 2,000 RPM's I lose power and Fuel useage.
At 1,800 RPM I average about 65 - 66 MPH and at 2,000 RPM around 68-69 MPH.
The problem here is even if you are at peak HP, most of that extra HP is lost pushing that billboard through the air 3-4 MPH faster with alot more wind resistance..

RE: What fire extinguisher do you have? Where do you keep it?

I carry 2 Halon 10 or 12 lb extinguishers...one is next to the bed on the floor and the other is by the dining table...they are too large to tuck away at the front door...they also will not make a mess if I am unlucky enough to ever have to use them....
